A building donated by Henry Fowler English on Grove Street at the foot of Hillhouse Avenue where Silliman College now stands, became home to the New Haven Colony Historical Society in 1893. The Historical Society would reside here for 36 years before moving to its present location at 114 Whitney Avenue.
